Are You Ready For Option Trading?

Options trading can be very popular. I can see why. Options help investors to make a much higher return on their money then investing into stocks. But it also comes with some risks.

If you are interested in trading options first ask yourself if you are ready. Are you ready to take on the additional risks that is involved? Before jumping in and buying options with both hands there are a few questions you should ask yourself first.

“Do you understand what they are and their risks?”

Knowing the stock market basics is always a good thing. But it is equally as important to understand options. Stock options allow investors to create both, higher profits and higher losses.

Before trading them make sure you understand those risks and are able to control them through money management and position sizing.

“Are you making money?”

It is wise to have some prior stock market experience before investing money into stocks. Options are not some magical investment option that new traders should get into, but an advanced tool that can help experienced traders increase their returns.

Remember options magnify what you do now. If you are constantly losing money by trading stocks then buying options is the worst thing you can do.

“Do you have a plan?”

You cannot buy and hold options. If you want to make money it is important to have a plan on how you will approach trading. When do you enter? When do you get out, when you are right and when you are wrong? These are questions you need to answer.

Many traders make the mistake of getting into the hype and buying an option thinking that it will shoot up 800% overnight and then they sale, then don’t know what to do when it doesn’t happen. Before entering make sure you actually have a plan.
